[Commonplace book], [ca. 1824].

Manuscript, in multiple hands, of a collection of 35 poems on such subjects as death and mourning, often set in exotic cultures. Unattributed poems include Fragment. Written at Arrochar, September 1824; A Persian Fable; and A Mother's Dream. The volume also contains a copy of The Mother's Lament for Her Son by Caroline Anne Bowles; Rebecca's Hymn by Sir Walter Scott; excerpts from several poems by Thomas Moore, including Nourmahal, From 'The Light of the Haram' and From 'The Fire-Worshippers', and many excerpts from Byron's works, including Manfred; The Giaour; and Lines Addressed by Lord Byron to his Wife Soon After Their Marriage, Never Published.
